The practice of Reiki, was founded in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui in the late 20th century and means ‘universal life energy’. It works on the principle that energy, also known as ‘ki’ or ‘chi’, flows through the body via energy centres called ‘chakras’. A balanced flow of energy is said to provide a sense of well being and spiritual renewal. Those who practise Reiki are said to draw upon universal healing energy, which is then transferred to the client through visualisation and by gently placing their hands on or just above the body. I have been fortunate enough to learn Reiki theory taught by Reiki masters/teachers, who have trained in the tradition and passed it onto me in person. As a student I went through a process of initiation or ‘attunement’ to the Reiki energy in both levels 1 & 2.
Following a period of self treatment after attume, ent in Reiki level 1. I began to learn more about the work of this beautiful energy and not only from a personal and emotional perspective, but also as an aid to individual development and spiritual growth. After a few years I felt ready to continue my journey onto Reiki level 2, which allows me to be able to treat others, and I have been practicing for several years. Next year I hope to take myself to level 3 and continue with my energy healing work.
What to expect from a treatment with me?
First of all you will be made welcome and comfortable in the treatment room in order to fully assess your needs, once the paperwork is complete we can begin the treatment.
You will be invited to lay on a massage couch or sit in a chair, at all times you remain fully clothed although you remove your shoes as this is more comfortable when led on the treatment couch. I have decided that I will position you in a way that you feel most comfortable with, and do not ask you to turn through the treatment in order to aid maximum relaxation. If you feel uncomfortable you can move of course. The way in which I work is intuitive which means that I use a range of hand placement and scanning. As Reiki is a non-invasive therapy, when I say scan this simply means that I can feel heat on the area of your body that needs Reiki healing and Reiki will direct itself there. I will either place my hands on or above your body (with consent but never on the chest/pelvis or buttocks). By using my intuition I work with the Reiki energy allowing it to flow through me to assist your whole body healing. Finally I use the Reiki energy flow from my hands to re-balance each of your energy centres (Chakras) depending on where imbalances are thought to lie. Reiki may also be used remotely, with the recipient’s consent if you cannot attend a session.
Reiki has many benefits and is often described as a very relaxing and peaceful treatment, which helps to restore a sense of balance and well-being within the mind and body.
