A talking therapy such as counselling can help you to make sense of many difficult life problems – from coping with traumatic experiences or events, to dealing with mental health/wellbeing issues such as depression and anxiety or managing harmful emotions and behaviours.
As a Counsellor I learnt to use a range of different theories, methods and practices according to an individual client’s needs. That said I prefer to work in a person centred way, which ‘is based on the view that everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change, given the right conditions. Rather than being seen as the expert and directing the therapy, as a Counsellor I strive to offer unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence to help you find solutions to the issue(s) that you want to work with. Of course this is not a ‘one style fits all’ but it is a helpful place to begin as it allows you to see wether I can be of help, and where we need to take the sessions depending on the method that will be most beneficial to you as an individual.
I am a fully trained and experienced Counsellor having qualified in 2008, and I have also completed extra training in bereavement counselling with CRUSE bereavement service. I have 18 years of previous experience as a Mental Health Nurse which although not actively practiced now is helpful in my Counselling practice.
I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I have a current DBS (disclosure and Barring service) check.
All counselling sessions are £45 per session within opening hours and last up to 1 hour. A consultation is included in the first session so please allow for extra time on your first visit.
If you feel that you would like to find out more, please get in touch to see whether or not you feel you would benefit from working with me.
